Disneyland intros roving animatronic Muppets; Mickey and friends fear pink slips
The happiest place on Earth (Disneyland, not Las Vegas during CES) just got a little happier this week, thanks to a new exhibit called the Muppet Mobile Laboratory that roams the park and delights visitors with inane banter and sprays of water. Probably having nothing to do with the fact that the human costumed characters like to videotape themselves in suggestive poses while still in uniform, Disney decided to eschew flesh and bone for metal and silicon when it tasked the Imagineering studio with whipping up California Adventure's newest residents, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his always chipper, possibly speed-addicted friend Beaker. The two wacky companions approach groups of visitors in their remotely-controlled, cartoonish rocket ship, and thanks to operators monitoring embedded cameras, microphones, and speakers, are able to to carry on eerily-realistic conversations that incorporate actual traits of the audience members. The L.A. Times reminds us that the MML is only the latest in a long line of animatronic entertainers, from the Enchanted Tiki Room and Mr. Lincoln in the 60's to Lucky the Dinosaur and Crush the Turtle in the new millennium -- but Honeydew and Tweaker Beaker are the first that can be modified to entertain in almost any environment. Disney expects the new tech -- which enables remote operation from as far away as Glendale -- to eventually expand its stable of characters to include some of the Muppets who are too small to be played by actors (as opposed to mice, dogs, and ducks, which are just the right size), so next time the kids finally wear you down and win another trip to the Magic Kingdom, at least you'll be able to pass the time by chasing around little Chip 'n Dales or wirelessly hacking Kermit to tell the kiddies what he really thinks of that flaky pig.

Single White Android機器人
There was a lot of fun stuff at this year's ITP Winter Show, but Single White Android stole our hearts with his dejected expressions, glowing belly and brightly-lit excitability. Oh, and saran wrap, lots of saran wrap. The bot isn't terribly complicated, his belly glows red when he wants you to touch it, and when you do he lights up with joy. Hey, it's the little things, and while SWA might not be giving biped humanoids a run for research dollars anytime soon, he certainly managed to elicit some emotion from his audience.
今年的ITP（Interactive Telecommunications Program，互動電訊專題）冬季展上有許多有趣的玩意兒，Single White Android （可別和 Google 的 Android 混在一起）就是其中之一。這個機器人並不複雜，當他的腹部不適時（需要你的愛撫）就會變紅，你撫摸過後，他全身的[白]燈就會逐漸亮起，表達愉悅與感激之情。

負責到底，消防機器人上路囉！
消防機器人，甚至還有機器人滅火比賽，我們之前都有過詳盡的報導。不過這批來自Qinetiq的勇者們，才是我們應該敬重的英雄，因為他們是首批獲准上路的機器人消防員。
據Popular Mechanics所述，雖然這批機器人功能有限，僅能用來撲救易爆的乙炔氣導致的火災，不過在通行不便的火場，這些機器人還是能發揮巨大作用的。
俗話說，一個好漢三個幫，Qinetiq也明白人多力量大的道理，一次派出了3個機器人參加為期6個月的試用。三者分工明確：隊長Talon配備了熱成影像儀器，能夠判斷火災情勢；2,160磅重的Brokk 90是開路先鋒；ATV體型的Black Max負責滅火。可惜當下機器人智慧技術尚未成熟，暫時由人遙控指揮。相信在不久的將來，機器人會將自己真正的本事證實給我們看。

RoboPhilo is a compact personal robot that offers a level of sophistication you usually don’t find in robots for under $1000, let alone in one that costs less than 500 clams.
The humanoid ‘bot comes “ready to walk,” which means you won’t have to spend hours putting together the intricate servos and wiring that might have to with other hobby robots.
The 13-inch tall robot has over 20 individual servos for controlling the head, legs, arms, and other joints, so can be programmed to do some pretty complex moves.

還記得我們8月份那會兒報導過的神雞鬥士嗎？他的射擊系同門Robovie-X現身日本，現以94,500日元（約新台幣27,500元）的價格開始接受預定，明年2月發貨。

Kokoro Simroid sits back, says 'Aaaaaahhh…'
We've finally created the robot version of Hell: force one to sit, eternally, in a dentist chair and have it's mouth operated on. Could we make it worse? Why not give the bot sensitive teeth, eh? Unfortunately for the Simroid, Kokoro went the whole nine yards when the company designed it to act as a responsive training aid for dentists — teeth and all.
Simroid is designed to simulate a human patient. It can follow spoken orders and react to what's happening. Sensitive teeth allow the robot to know where the trainee is poking around and if said trainee blunders. Simroid responds in appropriate discomfort, visibly grimacing, moving its arms, and telling the doc-hopeful that it hurts. It also has silicon skin that's soft to the touch and air-powered muscles enable its realistic gestures. The designers found that a Simroid garners a better response from dentist than an inert dummy.
Kokoro, a division of Sanrio (known for making Hello Kitty products), showed the Simroid at the 2007 International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo, which pretty much sounds like the coolest place on Earth. Click through for a video of the Simroid getting some work done on its pearly whites.
